Faculty lectureships presents ...

Vincent Carretta will discuss "Genius in Bondage: A Biography of Phillis Wheatley" on Tuesday, September 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cheever seminar room, Finn House. Professor Carretta, of the University of Maryland, received a 2009 Guggenheim Fellowship to pursue research on Wheatley. He is the author most recently of Equiano, the African: Biography of a Self-Made Man.

William Hansen, professor emeritus of classical studies and folklore at Indiana University, will discuss how authors of popular handbooks treat classical mythology. The talk takes place on Monday, October 5, at 8:00 p.m. in Hayes Hall 109. Hansen is the author of half a dozen books on topics ranging from oral-formulaic theory and Hamlet to European folktales and classical mythology.
