Sonya is one of a number of Kenyon alumni who have found their way back to Gambier to work on the College's staff. She graduated from Kenyon in 1990 with a degree in political science. While a student, she was editor-in-chief of the Collegian, Kenyon's student newspaper; played violin in the Knox County Symphony; and participated in political groups. She spent part of her junior year with a program in Vienna, Austria, studying political structures in Eastern Europe.
After graduation, Sonya moved to Washington, D.C., where for ten years she built a career in human resource management. She returned to Gambier in 2002 with her husband Rob (Kenyon Class of 1991) and their two children, Ellie and Zach. Sonya started working for Kenyon in 2005, serving as an administrator with the Office of Alumni and Parent Programs before moving to the Office of Admissions. In her current role, she not only meets prospective students on campus and at their high schools; she also organizes visit days and other special admissions events on campus. "I have the best job in the world!" says Sonya.
When she's not busy with work, Sonya gives violin lessons, continues to play in the violin section of the Knox County Symphony, gardens, cheers for her kids at swim meets, and enjoys the company of her German shepherd and two cats.
