C. Darryl Uy

Director of Admissions

Having grown up half an hour from New York City in Pine Brook, New Jersey, Darryl Uy dreamed of singing and dancing under the bright lights of Broadway. His passion for the stage led him to Wesleyan University (Connecticut), where he majored in theater and English. Darryl worked in the Office of Admission at Brown University for eight years before earning his Ed.M. in higher education administration at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. While a grad student, he served as an outside reader for admissions at Tufts University.

Darryl joined the Kenyon admissions staff in August 2008 and stepped into the director's job the following spring. Notwithstanding his urban, East Coast roots, he found the transition to central Ohio an easy one, given the welcoming and supportive nature of the Kenyon and Gambier communities.

Both Darryl and his partner, Bob, are avid cyclists, kayakers, hikers, and campers, and consider Gambier to be their personal playground. Darryl just wishes he had more time to play! He likes to unwind with friends and family, his two dogs (a pound mutt and a Brittany spaniel), good food (home-cooked Filipino cuisine is his favorite), a good book (favorites: a tossup between Middlesex and A Prayer for Owen Meany), or a night at the movies (too many favorites to list). Darryl truly enjoys his job because he believes that he can be a more effective catalyst for change through admissions than with any role on Broadway.
