Tom Karako

Interim Director of the Center for the Study of American Democracy and Assistant Professor of Political Science

Tom Karako is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Kenyon College and the Interim Director of Kenyon's Center for the Study of American Democracy. Arriving at Kenyon in 2009, Karako began as the Center's Interim Director in Fall 2011.

Karako received his Ph.D. in Politics and Policy from Claremont Graduate University. He previously taught national security policy, American government, and constitutional law at Claremont McKenna College and California State University, San Bernardino. For the 2010-11 academic year, he was selected to be an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow, during which time he worked with the professional staff of the House Armed Services Committee on U.S. strategic forces policy, nonproliferation, and NATO.

Karako has published on U.S. defense policy, state politics, and executive-congressional relations. He is currently writing on ballistic missile proliferation and on the independent constitutional authority of the president to enter into international agreements.
