College Functioning Despite Power Outage

GAMBIER, Ohio (September 15, 2008)

Kenyon and Gambier, along with many other areas in Ohio, lost power on Sunday when severe wind storms swept through the region. Essential services are functioning at the College, however. The Peirce Hall dining complex is open and serving meals. Classes were canceled on Monday morning but resumed starting at 1:00 p.m.

Some electrical service is available at the library, where officials are helping students to charge cell phones. The Kenyon Athletic Center also has some electrical service.

College officials say that nonessential personnel need not report to work on Monday. The faculty meeting scheduled for Monday afternoon, however, will take place.

Meanwhile, Kenyon is working with local authorities to try to restore full power as soon as possible. The latest estimate indicates that power may be restored late this afternoon. In that case, evening classes will go on as scheduled.
