Minor Requirements

*NEW Department Policy: The Art History department has a new Minor form that is separate from the registrar's form. Our form can be picked up from your minor adviser or the department office.

Option 1: Broad
This minor is designed to give students an overview of art history. Courses that fulfill the minor requirements cannot be taken pass/fail. There are 5 possible programs, each totaling 3 units.

  • 1 unit at the foundation level :ARHS 110,111,113, or 114 (taken in any order), and
  • 1.5 units at the intermediate level, in two or more different areas of specialization, and
  • .5 unit at the advanced level (any 300-level ARHS course). ARHS 480 is recommended, but not required

OPTION 2: Focused (select one)
This minor is designed to give students an in-depth look at one area of specialization, with a broad enough base at the foundation level to be articulate about objects from other historical epochs.

2A: FOCUSED-ANCIENT ART

  • ARHS 110 and one other foundation course
  • ARHS 220 and 221
  • ARHS 373
  • .5 unit above the foundation level in another area.

2B: FOCUSED RENAISSANCE and BAROQUE ART

  • ARHS 111 and one other foundation course
  • 1 unit from ARHS 222,223,224,225
  • ARHS 375
  • .5 unit above the foundation level in another area

2C: FOCUSED-MODERN ART

  • ARHS 111 and one other foundation course
  • 1 unit from ARHS 226, 227,230,231, 238, AMST 109
  • ARHS 377 or 378
  • .5 unit above the foundation level in another area

2D: FOCUSED -ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY

  • ARHS 113 and one other foundation course
  • 1 unit from ARHS 220,221,223,233,234
