Complaint Procedures

If you believe you have been the victim of employment discrimination, discriminatory harassment, or sexual harassment (see Policies for definitions), the college provides a variety of informal and formal procedures to address your concerns. The basic procedure is as follows:

1. Talk to someone to get more information about whether any Kenyon policies have been violated and what options are available to you. Available resources include:

  • Office of Equal Opportunity
  • Your supervisor or department head
  • Director of Human Resources
  • Discrimination Advisors
  • Sexual Misconduct Advisors

2. Consider informal dispute resolution (except in cases of severe sexual harassment/ sexual assault). Possibilities include:

  • Indirect mediation
  • Direct communication
  • Direct mediation

3. If informal methods are inappropriate or unsuccessful, you may file a formal complaint with the Office of Equal Opportunity. The DEO, in conjunction with appropriate college officials, will conduct an investigation into the incident or refer the case to the Judicial Board, Faculty Grievance Committee, or Faculty Sexual Harassment Hearing Board.
