What are HLC/NCAs criteria for accreditation?
The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has developed a set of Criteria for Accreditation by which an institution is reviewed for quality. These have changed since our last reaccreditation in 2000. The changes are presented in the chart below.

Criterion One |
The institution has clear and publically stated purposes consistent with its mission and appropriate to an institution of higher education. |
The organization operates with integrity to ensure the fulfillment of its mission through structures and processes that involve the board, administration, faculty, staff, and students. |

The institution has effectively organized the human, financial, and physical resources necessary to accomplish its purposes. |
The organization's allocation of resources and its processes for evaluation and planning demonstrate its capacity to fulfill its mission, improve the quality of its education, and respond to future challenges and opportunities. |

The institution is accomplishing its educational and other purposes. |
The organization provides evidence of student learning and teaching effectiveness that demonstrates it is fulfilling its educational mission. |

The institution can continue to accomplish its purposes and strengthen its educational effectiveness. |
The organization promotes a life of learning for its faculty, administration, staff, and students by fostering and supporting inquiry, creativity, practice, and social responsibility in ways consistent with its mission. |

The institution demonstrates integrity in its practices and relationships. |
As called for by its mission, the organization identifies its constituencies and serves them in ways both value. |
