Since coming to Kenyon in 1980, Linda Smolak has taught courses in developmental psychology, statistics and methodology in psychology, and women's studies. Her primary teaching interests are in child development and gender related interests. She is also very interested in helping students understand, appreciate, and participate in the research aspects of psychology via courses and independent studies.

Smolak's research focuses on body image and eating problems in boys and girls. Her work emphasizes developmental contributors to body image and body change strategies. She is also working on research that examines the place of gender role in the development of body image and eating problems. In addition to serving on various college committees, Smolak has long been the advisor to the Kenyon Equestrian Team, reflecting her own interest in horses and riding.
