Kirk R. Emmert joined the Kenyon faculty in 1978 after previously serving in the Department of Government at Bowdoin College (1967-75) and in the Ford White House (1975-1976). His teaching at Kenyon includes the Quest for Justice, courses on the Presidency and the Supreme Court, Constitutional Law, educational policy and public policy as well as American Political Thought. He has published widely on Churchill, including a book, Winston Churchill on Empire. He is currently writing a book about Theodore Roosevelt and the American presidency. Professor Emmert has served the College in many ways, including chairing the Tenure and Promotions Committee and chairing the Committee for the Inauguration of President Robert Oden. He was elected Mayor of Gambier in November 2003 and reelected in 2007.
