Harlene Marley joined the faculty in 1969 as Kenyon's first permanent woman faculty member. She was educated at Oklahoma City University and Carnegie-Mellon University. Until her retirement in 2004 she taught directing, voice and diction, and the department's introductory course, and directed plays. She served as chair of the department for many years. An active participant in the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival for over twenty years, she has served on several regional and national committees, and was awarded three Gold Medallions for Excellence.
