Zoe Kontes came to Kenyon in 2007 from Duke University, where she served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Classical Studies for three years. Her main field of study is Old World Archaeology, but she also teaches courses in Latin and Greek. At Kenyon her courses include surveys of both Greek and Roman art and archaeology, as well as special topics courses in Sicilian archaeology and Athenian topography. These courses are closely tied to Kontes' research interests in the material culture of both Greece and Italy. She studies cult practice and its relation to social status in these areas. She has also published articles on ancient numismatics.
