William E. McCulloh taught classics at Kenyon from 1961 to 1999, primarily Greek language and literature. He has received five awards for excellence in teaching. In retirement he continues to offer tutorials to qualified students in Sanskrit and Modern Greek. McCulloh's scholarly work has focused on Greek lyric poetry, the Greek novel, and Neoplatonism. In addition to articles and reviews, he has published a book on Longus's Daphnis and Chloe and contributed supplementary sections to translations of Greek lyric poetry, especially Sappho. He is currently preparing a book on Pseudo-Dionysius Areopagita.
