for Upperclass students

In order to apply for "Housing Accommodation Consideration" prior to Housing Lottery upperclass students must complete the application and provide the documentation requested. Providing the college with medical or support information does not guarantee you a specific room (single) in the housing system as accommodation placements will be made in extreme cases only. The Office of Housing and Residential Life, the Health and Counseling Center, and the Office of Disability Services will review the information provided and determine if the need should be accommodated and the most suitable living accommodations appropriate (i.e., substance free, air conditioning, other students in similar situations, etc.). Placement is limited and all requests are not guaranteed approval.

A major part of the college educational experience is for students to learn to live on their own. Kenyon College provides on-campus housing to enhance intellectual, social, and cultural development through the experience of living with other individuals who bring a variety of social and cultural backgrounds to the community.

An upperclass student who feels that he or she needs special consideration in residence hall assignment should contact the Assistant Dean of Students for Housing and Residential Life to discuss the request for consideration.

Please note that requests for single rooms based on a student's desire to have a "quiet, undisturbed place to study" will be considered only in unusual circumstances. By virtue of the shared facilities, resources, and number of people living under one roof in the residence halls, a single room does not provide for such quiet, distraction-free space to any appreciable degree beyond living in a standard double room.

Housing accommodation requests need to be submitted each year, they do not carry forward. All requests are reviewed and prioritized according to severity of need. Every effort will be made to meet the student's needs. However, a large number of high priority needs and limited residence hall space may mean that not all requests will be met immediately. If the request cannot be honored for the upcoming semester, the student will be put on a waiting list for consideration as openings occur.
