Dance on Display

GAMBIER, Ohio (November 27, 2007) Dance artistry will take center stage with three performances of the annual Fall Dance Concert, December 6-8, at 8:00 pm in the Hill Theater. Admission is $1.

Directed by Associate Professor of Dance Julie Brodie, the concert features a wide variety of pieces choreographed by students and faculty as well as guest artists. Two senior dance majors, Chloe Nisbett of Oak Park, Illinois, and Mirra Shapiro of Ardmore, Pennsylvania, will present original works in partial fulfillment of the senior exercise. Juniors Anne Guest of Santa Monica, California, and Sarah Lewin of New York, New York, have created group pieces as well.

Other highlights:

* "Full Moon Disconnect," a new work that professional performer and choreographer Anthony Gongora set for six students while he was in residence at Kenyon in September.

* "Some Nerve," a dynamic duet by Kora Radella, visiting artist in dance.

* A demanding trio featuring a rug along with bug imagery, created by Emily Lawrence, visiting assistant professor of dance.

* A group ballet piece by Jade Laymon, an adjunct instructor and a former member of the New York City Ballet. The piece is in the Balanchine style and set to the music of Prokofiev.

* Donald McKayle's "Rainbow Etude," staged by Brodie for a group of six Kenyon dancers. Brodie set the piece from the Labanotation score.
