Taylor Concert Series

GAMBIER, Ohio (February 14, 2007) The Taylor Concert Series will present Tempesta di Mare in concert at Kenyon on Friday, February 16, at 8:00 p.m. in Rosse Hall Auditorium. The ensemble, which plays on baroque period instruments, will present "Vivaldi da Camera," or chamber music by Antonio Vivaldi. The event is free and open to the public.

Founded in 1996, Tempesta di Mare Chamber Players are Gwyn Roberts, flute and recorder; Richard Stone, lute and theorbo; Emlyn Ngai, violin; Karina Schmitz, violin and viola; and Rebecca Humphrey, violoncello.

Tempesta tours internationally and can be heard on national radio and television programs, including NPR's Sunday Baroque, Performance Today, and Harmonia. The Washington Post lauded the group for combining "the energy of a rock solo and the craft of a classical cadenza." All five musicians are accomplished early-music professionals with active individual performing and recording careers in addition to their work with Tempesta.

The Taylor Concert Series was established in 1993 through a bequest from Kenneth L. Taylor, professor of music at Kenyon from 1966 until his death in 1993, and with gifts in his memory. The series presents concerts by leading performers of music from the later Middle Ages through the end of the eighteenth century.
