The Kenyon College Chamber Singers is a select mixed choir consisting of forty-three undergraduate musicians who regard singing as an integral part of a liberal arts education. The group rehearses daily in order to prepare programs of both a cappella and accompanied music for Kenyon concerts as well as their annual Spring Tour. A music review in the Toledo Blade praised the Chamber Singers for its artistic accomplishments, stating in part: "...the long lines were sung beautifully with a great attention to dynamics...a very fine and taxing program well sung by an ensemble obviously enjoying it."
Kenyon College is Ohio's oldest private college. It boasts a remarkably dedicated faculty, a carefully planned liberal arts curriculum, a highly capable student body, and alumni who have contributed significantly in all walks of life. Located in the rolling hills of central Ohio, the campus has been called one of the nation's most attractive.
The Kenyon College Department of Music offers a wide range of courses for students in the liberal arts and a flexible, prescribed curriculum for those who choose to major in the discipline. The Department encourages a balance of study in the traditional areas of music history, music theory, and performance, yet many additional courses are available on special topics such as history of jazz, conducting, composition, and ethnomusicology. The Department sponsors a number of ensembles including the Chamber Singers, Community Choir, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Early Music Ensemble, Opera and Musical Theater Workshop, and the Knox County Symphony. The Department occupies the newly-constructed James P. Storer Music Building, a facility that offers a computerized music classroom, a band/orchestra rehearsal room, the Brandi Recital Hall and an electronic music studio.
