Senior Exercise
The senior exercise in psychology serves as the culminating experience for psychology majors, allowing students to demonstrate the skills and experience they havedeveloped during their time at Kenyon.
The senior exercise in psychology consist of two portions.
1. A standardized multiple choice test over psychology content. This test is published by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and is given to psychology students across the country. The best way to study for the test is to re-read the introductory psychology textbook thoroughly. The exam is scored by the ETS.
2. A research proposal for a study on any topic in psychology, written in APA format.
Students must take the ETS exam and write the paper based on their own knowledge and research, independent of help from any other person. Students are referred to the Course of Study for the regulations concerning academic honesty. If you have clarifying-type questions, please contact the department chair. Do not contact other members of the psychology department.
The ETS exam percentile score will be worth 100 points, and the research paper will be worth 200 points towards the total senior exercise score . Students must earn at least 180 of the 300 total points (60%) in order to pass the senior exercise. Students who do not receive 180 points will need to rewrite the research proposal to try to make up the additional points to earn a score of 60% of the total.
