Kenyon Glories

GAMBIER, Ohio (June 14, 2006) Reunion Weekend brought nearly 900 alumni and family members to Gambier for two days of sharing memories, catching up on personal news, and generally basking in Kenyon glories past and present. In addition to gatherings for the classes ending in 6 and 1, there were special reunions for the Owl Creek Singers and the Kenyon-Exeter Program.

The weekend, May 26-28, included class dinners and parties, along with special receptions for the Class of 1956, celebrating its 50th reunion, and the Class of 1981, celebrating its 25th. The Owl Creeks filled Rosse Hall with high-energy singing in a Saturday night concert in Rosse Hall. At the Kenyon-Exeter Program gatherings, alumni traded stories of their British adventures--not only with one another but also with faculty members who served as program directors.

Continuing reunion traditions included the Alumni Awards Luncheon, a family sing-along with gifted children's entertainers Justin Roberts '92 and Liam Davis '90, a reception celebrating Kenyon alumni authors, and a town meeting with President S. Georgia Nugent. Four faculty members offered well-attended seminars, with topics ranging from Renaissance art, to the history of slavery, to "strange" literary devices.

Reunion Weekend 2006 also introduced some new activities. In a special "stories tent," alumni recorded their college memories for the archives. And in the new Kenyon Athletic Center, the pool became an aquatic movie theater in a program called "Swim and Scream," in which viewers could float on a raft while watching Jaws on the facility's scoreboard screen.
