NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

GAMBIER, Ohio (June 1, 2006) Recent Kenyon College graduates and national swim champions Jimmy Berger and Travis Brennion were selected to receive the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) prestigious Postgraduate Scholarship. Since 1970, Kenyon has had forty-seven Postgraduate Scholarship winners, a total that ranks second-best among all NCAA Division III institutions.

The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women. The $7,500 scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

Berger graduated from Kenyon with 3.50 grade point average and received his degree in honors economics and political science with a concentration in public policy. He was awarded the Jeffrey S. Williams Memorial Award for Integrative Study in economics as well as a Distinguished Academic Scholarship from Kenyon, and was named an Ohio Board of Regents Professional Fellow. In the pool, he was a six-time national title-winner and nine-time All-American. Berger plans to use his scholarship at The Ohio State University, where he is enrolled in the Moritz College of Law.

Brennion concluded his Kenyon career with a 3.66 grade point average and a degree in honors economics with a concentration in legal studies. He was named the College's North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is a two-time selection to the College Sports Information Directors of America's (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team. He won the national title in the 400-yard individual medley this season and is the owner of thirteen All-American awards. Brennion's future includes working for BASES, a marketing research company, after which he plans to pursue studies in law and business administration.

Berger, Brennion, and the rest of the Lords swim team won their twenty-seventh consecutive team national championship this past season. Their streak is the longest in the history of the NCAA, including all of its sports and divisions.
