Facilities and Instrumentation

The Department of Chemistry is housed in Tomsich Hall, part of Kenyon's recently built science quad. Tomsich is a four-story structure that sits between Higley Hall on the south and Hayes Hall on the north. With ample research space and cutting-edge instrumentation, Tomsich Hall's interconnected classrooms and state-of-the-art teaching labs provide an environment for inquiry-based learning and encourage student research.

In addition to individual faculty research labs, the building houses research-grade instrumentation for use at all levels of our curriculum and research programs. Some major instruments include:

  • 300 MHz NMR spectrometer
  • laser and fluorescence spectroscopy laboratory
  • chromatographs, a cell-culture facility, and
  • laptop and high-end computer workstations and software.

A complete instrument list describes other instruments and equipment.
