Ladies win four of six

Despite a recent coaching change and problems with its home playing surface, the Kenyon field hockey team recorded wins in four of its first six games.

Coach Chrissy Kilroe, who arrived on campus just weeks before the season started, steered the Ladies to a 4-0 start. She highlighted that run with a 3-2 road victory over Wittenberg University, the defending North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) champions. The win on the Tigers' turf was a feat the Ladies had not accomplished since the 1990 season.

The play of the defense has been key to the Ladies' success in the early season. Through their first five games, the Ladies were ranked second among all NCAC teams in goals allowed (4), goals against average (0.72), and scoring margin (+0.54). Additionally, sophomore goalie Kimberly Brown ranked first in the conference with three shutout wins. She's made 34 saves so far this season and has allowed just five goals.

On the offensive end, sophomore Kayla Greenberg leads the team with three goals, while junior Julia Sivon has two, both of which were game-winning goals. Currently, the Ladies rank second in the conference in scoring average (1.17 goals per game).

The team's accomplishments are even more impressive considering it has yet to play on Waite Field, its home site. The Ladies have used a practice field and McBride Field as temporary homes while the surface of Waite Field is being restored.
