Science, Math and Arts Equipment Funds
Each year funds are allocated to specific departments for the purchase of needed laboratory, studio and other instructional equipment.
Each department may spend at its own discretion the proportion of these funds that have been assigned to its sub-account; the only limitation being that the money must be spent on equipment needed for instruction or research.
Each Chair will represent its department on the Instructional Equipment Funds (IEF) Committee which meets as needed to discuss related matters.
The Associate Provost is responsible for keeping records of the sub-accounts and distributing information about the status of those sub-accounts at regular intervals.
This record-keeping is of particular importance since such funds are carried over to succeeding years. Therefore the records must indicate which sub-accounts are credited with carry-overs. This procedure allows departments that envision major purchases to accumulate money over the course of more than a single year.
A general fund is maintained to provide a margin of flexibility if sudden opportunities or emergencies arise, and is available only after a consultative meeting of the IEF Committee.
