Becoming an Extern Host
Being an Extern Host involves giving a Kenyon student a 3-5 day look at your occupation.
Externs benefit from observing, asking questions, and talking with your colleagues in other aspects of your organization or in similar or complementary positions outside of your organization.
Each Host is encouraged to arrange the Extern's week in the way that seems most appropriate for their particular occupation.
The benefits to the student of the Extern Program are purely personal. There is no pay and no college credit involved.
Students are responsible for their own transportation, housing, and meals while they are Externs. Students who wish to be Externs in a city away from home may arrange with the Career Development Office to have housing for the week through the Parents Association's "Bed and Breakfast" Program.
Kenyon students are fully covered by health and accident insurance twelve months of the year, twenty-four hours a day, thus the Sponsor's organization assumes no responsibility in this regard.
Past Hosts have enjoyed the experience:
"It was a delight to expose an undergraduate to a field that I find exciting on a day-to-day basis.""It's a rewarding experience to know that I am helping someone else identify what they would like to do with their life."
