Planning Guide
Careful planning is important when seeking admission to medical school. Kenyon employs a pre-medical advisor who helps students with all aspects of pre-medical study, from undergraduate course planning to completing professional school applications. Below is a general schedule to guide students in during their four years.
First Year
The advisor begins meeting with students who are interested in medical and health careers early in their first year at Kenyon. She encourages students to read a lot, learn about issues related to modern medical care, and determine if this rewarding but demanding career path is indeed right for them.
Sophomore Year
In the sophomore year, students are encouraged to gain first-hand exposure to the medical, dental, or veterinary community. The pre-medical advisor is well connected to alumni and can help put students in contact with shadowing opportunities, internships, and externships.
Students can join the Rolla Dyer Society (named for the Kenyon alumnus who discovered the typhus vaccine), which brings speakers to campus and arranges volunteer opportunities in the local community.
Junior Year
In the junior year, students begin preparing for the lengthy professional school application process. On Career Day, medical, dental, and veterinary school representatives come to campus to meet students and talk about their programs.
