Bee stings and insect bites

Stings and bites may cause a reaction from the toxic effects of the infected venom.

Symptoms

  2. There may be swelling and/or redness at bite site.
  3. Minimal initial discomfort of burning or itching may persist for 24-48 hours.

Self-Treatment

  1. Remove stinger by scraping with your fingernail. Do not use tweezers.
  2. Apply a baking soda and water paste to decrease inflammation.
  3. Apply ice to site, 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, then repeat. After 48 hours, you may apply heat instead of ice for 20 minutes at a time.
  4. Keep area elevated.
