Ingrown nail/hang nail

A nail imbedded in soft tissue that causes inflammation.

Symptoms

  1. Painful toe or finger.
  2. Inflamed and swollen around nail.
  3. Purulent drainage (containing pus) from the side of the affected nail.

Self-Treatment

  1. Warm Epsom salts soaks 3-4 times a day.
  2. After soaking, apply Neosporin to affected area 3-4 times a day.
  3. Tylenol/Advil for discomfort.

Health Service Visit Recommended If:

  1. No improvement after 2-3 days of self-treatment.
  2. Diabetics should be treated at Health Center.
  3. Recurrence of symptoms after 1-2 attempts of self-treatment.
