Vaginitis

Vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina caused by a bacteria or a parasite.

Symptoms

  1. Abnormal vaginal discharge.
  2. Offensive vaginal odor.
  3. Vaginal itching or burning.
  4. Pain or irritation with urination and during intercourse.
  5. Some women may have no symptoms.

Preventive Measures

  1. Good personal hygiene following sexual intercourse, urination and bowel movements. Clean from front to back, vagina to anus.
  2. Avoid wearing tight jeans, wet bathing suits or nylon panties.
  3. Cut down on sweets, milk products and artificial sweeteners.
  4. Partner may need to be treated before sexual activity is resumed to prevent reinfection.
  5. Recommend leaving tampon in no longer than 8 hours.

Health Service Visit Recommended If:

  1. Above-listed symptoms occur.
  2. Symptoms recur following treatment.
