Senior art shows continue at Kenyon College
GAMBIER, Ohio (March 25, 2005) Kenyon College's senior studio art majors will continue to exhibit their work in the College's Olin Gallery, located in the Olin Library, with a new show opening on Monday, April 4. A reception from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the gallery will celebrate the opening.Exhibiting during the third week are Angela L. Arahood of Taylorsville, Kentucky; Nike Desis of Rye, New York; and Nicholas A. Westervelt of Falmouth, Maine.
Arahood will present a mixed media show exploring the ambiguity and arbitrariness of gender. She combines painted, figurative imagery with abstract video in such a way that the viewer is struck by the beauty of the human form - male, female, or otherwise.
Desis' exhibit provides "a look at how our consumer culture treats us like we're a bunch of silly second graders."
Westervelt will show his cumulative work that gently critiques masculine stereotypes and insecurities.
For this exhibit, the Olin Gallery is open from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It will be closed on Sunday. Admission is free.
