Senior art exhibits open in Kenyon College's Olin Gallery

GAMBIER, Ohio (March 2, 2005) Seniors majoring in studio art will present their work to the public beginning Monday, March 21, in Kenyon College's Olin Gallery. The exhibition of Senior Art Exercises will continue through Saturday, April 16.

The shows include projects completed as part of a major in art and will feature the senior-thesis work of three students each week. The students work in oil paint, water color, fabric and fiber, graphite, and digital media. One student will present furniture as sculpture.

The artists for the first show are Baum Nara Cho, Anaheim, California; Rachel E. "Reed" Esslinger, Gambier, Ohio; and Megan S. Thomas, Barboursville, West Virginia. Cho has prepared an installation called Open Ended, constructed primarily of fabrics and other fibrous materials. Esslinger also works with fabric, as well as unconventional materials such as fishing line and wire, to create sculptural tapestries. Thomas has prepared a series of self-portraits called No Talking, expressing her frustration with verbal communication as a means of effective self-expression.

A reception will open the show on Monday, March 21, at 7:00 p.m. in the gallery. Hours for other days are 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
