A Clear View

The Franklin Miller Observatory is up and running in its new location off Route 229, following a move late last fall. Located for ten years near Meadow Lane, the observatory was moved because the temporary fieldhouse, constructed nearby, partially blocked its view. Ambient light was also a consideration. The new location, atop a hill in a remote field near campus, is "more isolated, a better spot with more horizon," says Paula Turner, associate professor of physics. Two different classes are using the observatory this semester, with an open house taking place, as weather permits, the last Friday of each month.
