Senior Class Schedule Changes
What happens if my schedule changes during the middle of the application process or after I have been admitted?
When the Kenyon College Office of Admissions offers admission to a student during early decision or regular decision, we do so with the understanding that the student will complete the course schedule for which he or she is registered.
Generally, we do not approve any changes in schedule. We look for students to challenge themselves in school, and dropping a course could be viewed as taking the less difficult road, especially if students drop a challenging class after they have been admitted to Kenyon. If we encounter a high school record that changes substantially once an application is completed or admitted, we may question that student's seriousness and ability to meet the rigor of Kenyon work.
We feel, however, that the actual curriculum plan for any student should be decided by the student (and family) and high school (advisor and teachers). When a student registers for a course of similar rigor and/or similar subject matter with the agreement of the high school counselor, the Office of Admissions will not consider this new course schedule to be a major change in the application.
