Seniors present their work in the Fall Dance Concert

The Kenyon College Dramatic Club will present its Fall Dance Concert at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 9 through December 11, in the Hill Theater. Tickets are $1.

The concert will feature the choreography and performance pieces of four dance majors, all of whom are preparing work that fulfills a partial requirement for their senior exercise.

M. Hall Carlough has reconstructed a solo dance by Elizabeth Streb entitled "Little Ease." Carlough's performance takes place in a box built to his specific measurements. He has also choreographed a piece for eight dancers entitled "Little Black Boxes." The work explores the function of performance space in regard to architectural theories and philosophies of space.

Shannon Donald has choreographed a piece that was inspired by her studies abroad. It is a commentary on the spectrum of relationships that spring from the inherent dualities in developing countries. Donald spent the spring semester of her junior year in the Kenyon Honduras program.

"Our Meddling Intellect" is a work created by Lindsay Junkin. She explores the deterioration of connections between people and the world brought about by the tendency of human beings to dissect experiences rather than engage with them.

Sara Murdock has prepared a piece about present-day depictions of American history and how that information shapes the way in which Americans view the country. Entitled "Byte (United States of Amnesia)," the work features a video and audio collage of iconic American images and music. Murdock was assisted in her project by senior art major Rachel Esslinger, who played an integral part in constructing the video.

Junior dance major Dana Powers has created "Trio #1," a piece about the importance of taking risks in life.

Guest choreographer Kora Radella, who has been teaching dance at Kenyon this fall, and composer Ross Feller, an assistant professor at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, have created "Undertow," a piece for seven women. The flowing costumes were designed by Associate Professor of Drama Andrew Reinert and crafted by Kenyon costume-shop manager Debe Clark. Associate Professor of Drama William Marshall designed the set. Marshall is also working with junior Katherine Capaldi on an independent lighting study that involves designing the lighting for three of the dance pieces. Capaldi will perform as well.

Tickets will be available beginning Monday, December 6. There is no reserved seating in the Hill Theater.
