Laugh Track

GAMBIER, Ohio (October 17, 2004) What do Bill Murray, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Mike Myers, and Tina Fey have in common? Their careers were launched by Second City, the internationally renowned comedy troupe. Second City will share its brand of laughter with Kenyon on Tuesday, October 19, at 8:00 p.m. in Rosse Hall Auditorium.

Second City describes their act as "improv and sketch comedy at its best." Started in Chicago in the 1950s by a group of University of Chicago students, Second City has performed at Kenyon several times, often booking back-to-back performances to meet audience demand.

"It's sort of a tradition to have them perform here," says Jessica Cheatwood-Alvarez, area coordinator for first-year students. "The show is so popular."

"Second City is a great example of the nationally renowned forms of entertainment that Kenyon brings to campus as an alternative to everyday activities," says Kelly Smallwood, Class of 2005, who attended Second City performances at the College in 2001 and 2002.

The comedy troupe's performance, which is free, is sponsored by Kenyon's student-run Social Board.
