Ladies claim Kenyon Classic title
The Kenyon College women's soccer team battled through a two-day, four-team tournament at Mavec Field September 4-5 to claim the Kenyon College Classic title for the second time in four seasons.
Tournament play began Saturday with a 3-0 victory over the Methodist College Monarchs. Seniors Guin Granite and Amy Gross scored Kenyon's first two goals; junior Weronika Kowalczyk followed up with a third. Later in the day, the Ohio Dominican College Panthers held off the Case Western Reserve University Spartans in a 1-0 double-overtime win.
When the second day of the tournament rolled around, Methodist posted a 1-0 win over Ohio Dominican, giving the Ladies the inside track to the tournament title. Their final match, against the Spartans, ended in a 0-0 double-overtime tie. Although the Kenyon women failed to score against Case Western Reserve, the tie was all they needed to take top honors.
Throughout the weekend, the Ladies relied on a strong defensive unit that yielded just nine shots and no goals. The backbone of the defense was first-year goalkeeper Rosemary Davis, who recorded her first two collegiate shutout wins by making a combined five saves.
