Following His Heart

Elliot Forhan's talents and interests are as varied as soccer, drama, choral music, history, science, and math. A graduate of Ohio's Athens High School, Forhan was a high-school standout with numerous academic, artistic, and athletic honors to his credit. It's not surprising that he applied to some of the most selective and prestigious colleges in the country-nine in all. He was accepted by all of them, including Amherst, Haverford, Princeton, and Williams.
In the end, it came to down to Princeton and Kenyon. It wasn't an easy decision.
"I was all set to accept Princeton's offer, but there was something inside telling me that it might not be the right decision," says Forhan. He took a day off from school, visited Kenyon again, and then went home and accepted Kenyon's offer.
"In the end, I found Kenyon to be a better fit for me. There were a lot of intangibles involved in the decision that are hard to verbalize," says Forhan. "When I came here and met the soccer team, they struck me as engaging and friendly. I was also impressed by the friendliness and warmth of the student body and the professors and administrators."
Forhan resisted the temptation to choose a school based only on the prestige factor. "As shallow as it sounds, there was a bit of that in the back of my head as I looked at Princeton. But this decision was bigger than that. Kenyon is where I need to be."
