Kenyon College Opera Workshop presents Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe

GAMBIER, Ohio (April 27, 2004) The Kenyon College Opera Workshop will present Gilbert and Sullivan's Iolanthe at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 9, in the College's Rosse Hall Auditorium. There is no charge for the performance, which is open to the public.

Iolanthe is a tale of whimsical fantasy and satire set in Victorian England. Before the story begins, Iolanthe disobeys fairy law and marries the Lord Chancellor. As punishment for this crime, the fairy queen banishes Iolanthe from fairyland and orders her to never again have contact with the Lord Chancellor. The story revolves around Iolanthe's and the Lord Chancellor's son, Strephon, who is in love with Phyllis, a ward of the court. The peers are satirized as particularly inept.

Adjunct Instructor of Voice Nancy Jantsch is directing. Musical direction is provided by Elton Hartney, a senior from Marathon, Florida.
