Symphonic Wind Ensemble - Family Weekend Concert

Under the direction of Professor Dane Heuchemer, Professor of Music, the sixty-member ensemble will perform its first concert of the academic year. The concert will feature pieces written by Johann Sebastian Bach, Ron Nelson, and Vaclav Nelhybel, as well as three movements from Percy Grainger's Lincolnshire Posy. Senior Music major Patrick Joyal '13 will guest conduct Charles Ives's Country Band March.
"After being on sabbatical last year, it is really exciting to be back on the podium," Heuchemer said. "I missed working with this group and these people very, very much."

Kenyon College Percussion Ensemble

Under the direction of percussion instructor Cary Dachtyl, the 12-member group will perform a varied program, including Fool in the Rain by Led Zeppelin, Roll-off Rhumba by Vic Firth, and Jai Ho, the theme from Slumdog Millionaire.
The performance incorporates unusual instrumentation, with musicians' bodies in play on Rhythm Syndicate, featuring clapping, thigh-slapping, stomping and vocal sounds. The ensemble also uses junkyard items such as plastic tubs, brake drums, and old pots in their performance of Street Beats I.

OBOHIO, The Double Reed Consort, was founded in January 1990 by Robert Sorton. The basic quartet of oboe, oboe d'amore, English horn, and bassoon performs a wide variety of repertoire from the Renaissance to modern times, from solo pieces to works incorporating additional musicians. The ensemble frequently performs compositions using bass (baryton) oboe, musette oboe, or contra-bassoon. In addition to recitals, OBOHIO presents clinics and master classes at universities, public schools, and conferences.
