Studio Art
Criterion for Evaluation in Studio Art: Artistic Engagement
All members of the Studio Art Faculty are expected to be practicing artists. Studio Art embraces a wide range of media and concepts making it impossible to state a specific set of expectations that would be all encompassing. Evaluative guidelines will have to be general, with the clear understanding that work in the studio is ongoing and that external peer review is expected. Each medium will have its own hierarchy with respect to what constitutes an appropriate review and with respect to what constitutes an appropriate quantity of activities. Therefore the committee doing the evaluation of an individual in studio art will have to rely on the letters submitted to clarify the relative worth of a resume. Listed below are some general parameters that can be used to give one a sense of a resume in the visual arts. The categories are listed alphabetically as their merit is relatively equal. The subcategories, unless stated otherwise, do suggest a hierarchy. The Artistic Engagement record should demonstrate regular participation, minimally, at the local and regional level. As the Studio Art faculty member moves through rank and tenure the number of activities should be maintained or increased with an upward movement in the hierarchy.
