Kenyon College Opera Workshop and Kenyon Musical Theater to present Christmas classic Amahl and the Night Visitors

GAMBIER, Ohio (December 1, 2003) The Kenyon College Opera Workshop and the Kenyon Musical Theater will stage a production of the Christmas classic Amahl and the Night Visitors by Gian Carlo Menotti at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, in Rosse Hall Auditorium.

One of the most popular of American operas, Menotti's work is performed throughout the country every Christmas season. At its premiere in December 1951, the work was the first opera ever written expressly for television and it was replayed on NBC every year until the original video recording was lost.

The story is of the miracles that occur when the three wise men, Balthazar, Kaspar, and Melchior visit a crippled shepherd boy and his mother as they are on their way to seek the newborn king whose star they have been following in the east.

The public is invited to attend this free performance, which is sponsored by Kenyon's Department of Music.
