Those who wish to go directly into graduate school in anthropology should work closely with their faculty advisors to find a program that matches their interests and needs. The Council on Undergraduate Research also has a website where graduate programs looking for students with significant research experience can find them.

Generally, you will want to select a program with a high national ranking, and these rankings are posted in the lounge. The Guide, published by the American Anthropological Association, is also available in the lounge, although the current year's copy is always kept in the Department Office. Careful study of the Guide can help you select the list of schools to which you wish to apply, and all entries in the Guide have the relevant contact information. Check also to see if our Department files have a folder on the programs on your list. Sometimes those folders include catalogs and other detailed information.

If you are planning to go directly into graduate school, you should begin investigating the options in the summer before the senior year if possible, but no later than early in the fall of your senior year. Many schools require a GRE score, so you will need to schedule that through the CRC. Many due dates fall in the period from mid-December to February 1. Budget time in the fall semester of the senior year to preparing your forms and other materials. You will need to ask faculty for references, and give them sufficient time to do justice to the task.
