Gund gives greenery
Next spring, the lawn between Mather and Ascension halls will blossom in a sea of color. Landscaping crews recently planted the area with sixty-six thousand scilla bulbs, a gift of Graham Gund '63. When the bulbs bloom early each spring, they will produce a carpet of grass-like leaves and purple flowers. The flowers will die back in early May and be mowed over in time for Commencement.Gund has also donated forty-five trees, which are being planted throughout the campus and the village. At the suggestion of Kenyon's campus design commitee, the trees are all native hardwoods.
"Like those of us now living on this hill, Graham Gund keenly appreciates the beauty of this place and the importance of flowers and trees to our environment," said Special Assistant to the President Howard Sacks. "His gift will enhance this beauty now and ensure that future residents can enjoy the diversity, rich foliage, and shade that a new generation of mature trees can provide."
