After Hours Care

The Cox Health and Counseling Center along with campus partners provides after-hours care in several forms.

Campus Safety

Full-time campus safety officers are trained as emergency medical responders (EMR) and can be reached by contacting 740-427-5555.

TELUS Health Student Support

TELUS Health Student Support is a service provided to all students (on campus, learning remotely or abroad) by Kenyon. Students have 24/7 access to a licensed clinical mental health professional who can assist with immediate support, crisis intervention and stabilization. TELUS Health Student Support can be reached by calling the campus emergency line at 740-427-5555 or through their app.

TELUS Health Student Support works in concert with counseling staff and provides confidential reports to our counseling team members at the end of every student support session. If you are connected with a Kenyon counselor, your TELUS Health Student Support report may be discussed during your next scheduled appointment.

There are three outcomes to a TELUS Health support session:

  • The student's needs are met; Kenyon's counseling team receives a summary report to be added to the student’s treatment file.
  • The student's needs are met, and TELUS Health recommends a follow-up appointment; Kenyon's counseling team receives a summary report to be added to the student’s treatment file. Follow-up appointments scheduled by the student will be the first available appointment.
  • The student's needs exceed the support TELUS Health Student Support can provide and Campus Safety is contacted to coordinate transport to Knox Community Hospital by ambulance*; Kenyon's counseling team receives a summary report to be added to the student’s treatment file.

We encourage students participating in Off Campus Study (OCS) programs to connect with program recommended local resources including emergency response.

*Note: The only crisis transportation alternative is the county sheriff's deputy. The deputy will search a student’s person and bags to ensure their safety during transport.

Mount Vernon Fire Department

MVFD ShieldAll Kenyon students can receive a “soft-billed” medical transport from Mount Vernon Fire Department (aka Squad) to Knox Community Hospital (KCH) when deemed medically necessary by Squad’s emergency medical technicians (EMT).

Soft-billed means Squad will use the student’s health insurance to cover maximum allowable costs per the insurance plan benefit and any remaining cost for the transport will be waived.

This transport includes sexual assault support such as sexual assault nurse examination (SANE) and support by New Directions of Knox County (a domestic violence and rape crisis shelter) at Knox Community Hospital.
