Shipping Packages to Kenyon Students

Shipping Packages To Student College Residences Before Fall 2012 Classes Begin

Note: see second part below for information about shipping during the academic year.

To avoid package storage and delivery fees, students are encouraged to ship packages to their box via the United States Postal Service. These packages will be available for pickup at the Gambier Post Office upon arrival to campus (during normal USPS Office business hours). Note: new students are notified of their (Post Office) Box number in the housing assignment packet mailing in early July, and all students may access their number by searching their name in the online extended directory.

Some students prefer to ship their belongings to arrive before move-in day and would like for the package(s) to be placed in their residence hall room. During the academic year when shipping services such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL deliver packages to the Kenyon Bookstore for student pick-up. But prior to fall move in, because of the large volume of student packages coupled with deliveries of fall text books, the Bookstore does not have the space to store these packages until move-in day. As a service, Housing and Residential Life personnel deliver packages received August 10 to 22 to student residence hall rooms.

Students not shipping packages to their PO Box wishing to have residence hall delivery and storage service should address packages as follows:

The Office of Housing and Residential Life has limitations on the number of those packages sent prior to the academic year that will be delivered and stored in residence hall rooms as follows:

- Packages cannot be received before August 10. If packages are received before this date and students are not currently living in summer campus housing, College personnel will refuse delivery and the sender must pay for return shipping (or a $40 charge to the student's account if refuse-delivery is not possible). It is vital that steps for fall delivery of package arrival be planned to arrive on or after August 10 (and not before); this can easily be done by not shipping anything prior to August 10.

- Packages must not weigh more than 40 pounds. Any packages arriving weighing more than this limit will be refused and the sender must pay for return shipping (or a $40 charge to the student's account if refuse-delivery is not possible).

- Each student may ship up to two packages to arrive in Gambier from August 10 to August 22, 2012 free of charge. (The date of actual delivery receipt must fall in this period). These packages will be received, stored, and then delivered to and stored in the student's room before move-in day.

- If a student ships more than two packages, a $15 fee per package will be assessed to the student's account.

- If packages arrive Thursday and Friday, they may not be delivered that day or over the weekend.

- It is important that students not wait until the last moment to ship items. Any shipped packages arriving on or after August 22 and before August 27, 2012 will be stored and delivered for a $35 fee per package.

- In the event of a late delivery, it is highly recommended to avoid shipping essentials, such as bedding. Although every effort will be made to deliver and store packages in residence hall rooms, in the event of unknown hindrances, this service cannot be guaranteed.

- Beginning Monday, August 27, the Bookstore will again accept student packages (per the usual academic year - see below), and students must pick them up from the Bookstore and transport them to their residence. (The package delivery program will not be in effect beginning this date.)

Students permitted to arrive early:
Some students are permitted to arrive to campus early. For instance, students participating in a Pre-Orientation program or athletic practice. These students should ship packages so that they arrive in Gambier no earlier than August 10 and no later than August 22. Students arriving early will also be allowed two packages free of charge, with additional packages being subject to a delivery fee of $15 each. Packages should be received no earlier than August 10, but before the Pre-Orientation or fall athletic program begins; please consult your program director or coach for arrival dates.


Shipping During the Academic Year

Since residence hall doors are locked and not accessible to non-students, UPS, FedEx, and other private carriers will not be permitted to deliver packages to student residences. All packages shipped to students via UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc. during the academic year must be sent to the following address:

Including the Post Office box on line two of the address section (without the "PO") will enable some carriers that contract the US Postal Service to send the package to the student's PO Box instead of the Bookstore. When packages arrive at the Bookstore, the student will be sent an e-mail to their Kenyon e-mail address indicating that the package has arrived. Students must pick up their package at the Bookstore within three days. Packages that arrive during Thanksgiving break, Winter break, and Spring break will be held until students return. Students must present their student ID or other picture ID to receive their package, and packages will not be released to anyone except the student to whom the package is addressed. If the package is not picked up within the three day period the students K-card account will be placed on "hold" status until the package is picked up. While the student's K-card account is on "hold" status the student will not be able to use their K-card account to make purchases either in the Bookstore or at other vendors that accept the K-card.

Packages can always be sent via United States Postal Service to the student's PO Box number and those packages will be delivered to the Gambier post office for student pick-up (during their business hours). All first class mail and magazine subscriptions must be addressed to the postal address.

Local delivery of perishable items should continue to be delivered to the Office of Campus Safety. For example, flowers, bakery items, etc. Food items (pizza) ordered by a student are the responsibility of the student. Delivery people are not to be in the residence halls. Students will need to meet the delivery people at the door of the residence halls to receive items.
