Like any community, Kenyon is not immune to the dangers of larger society. That said, Kenyon is a pretty safe place, with very low rates of crime. Though it's the primary concern of Kenyon's Office of Campus Safety, our entire community works hard to promote and support a safe environment for our students.

As fully explained in the Student Handbook, the campus safety officers handle everything from lost or stolen property reports to emergency response. They are trained in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), fire and hazardous-material emergencies, traffic enforcement, security patrol, and sensitivity issues, including the handling of incidents related to tolerance on a multicultural campus.

In the event of a major emergency, the Office of Campus Safety can communicate with members of the Kenyon community in the following ways:

  • An automatic voicemail message will be sent to all campus phones, including those in student residences.
  • Kenyon's new emergency message service will send text messages or short, recorded voice messages to a designated cell phone. Note: To receive alerts from this service, students and staff must sign up and supply a cell phone number. Instructions are issued to the Kenyon community at the beginning of each semester.
  • Students, faculty, and staff will receive an email with the subject line "Campus Alert" from fortnightly@kenyon.edu. When appropriate, Kenyon parents are also notified of campus alerts via email.
