LADS: Learning And Doing Science
LADS (Learning and Doing Science) is a program created to extend boys' science education beyond the classroom and develop their appreciation for the pursuit of scientific discovery. Experimenting alongside the students and scientists of Kenyon College, the lads of LADS will watch invisible particles, find the hidden destructive power of gummy bears, and much more! We will learn material that is fun, exciting and totally new.
Available to all Knox County middle school boys (grades 6-8). The program begins at 9:00 a.m. and goes until 1:30 p.m. Registration is free, and lunch will be provided.
Our first session, "Chemistry All Around You," was held on Saturday, October 22. Participants had the opportunity to watch candy blow up, and they got to make and eat delicious instant ice cream!
Our next session is scheduled for February 25, 2012. You won't want to miss this one!
The Invisible All Around YouSaturday, February 25, 2012
9:00 am-1:30 pm (Lunch is provided.)
You're inside a box, and the only thing you can see is a slit of light. Can you tell if it's sunlight or a street lamp? No? Can you see particles that are too fast and small for any camera to catch? We'll build tools to help you do both, and solve other problems as we explore the darker side of light.
Click here to register for the February 25, 2012 session. Registration will be open until February 17, 2012.
If getting to campus poses difficulty, please indicate that transportation might be necessary when registering.
