Kenyon College and Mount Vernon High School students will present a poetry reading Thursday, Dec. 1, at 4 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Public Library, 201 N. Mulberry St.
The students will present and discuss four poems by contemporary Latino writers: “America,” by Richard Blanco; “Immigration and Naturalization Service Report #46,” by Eduardo Corral; “Mexican Differences Mexican Similarities,” by Juan Felipe Herrera; and “Puerto Rican Obituary,” by Pedro Pietri. The poems were jointly selected by Spanish faculty at Kenyon College and Mount Vernon High School.
Part of a project titled “Living Literature,” this free event represents the culmination of a collaborative effort to study and discuss texts with the goal of making literature come alive in order to foster a deeper knowledge of oneself and empathy and acceptance of others.
