Writing Consultants can help writers discover ways to begin an assignment, methods for organizing and developing ideas, and strategies for revision. They can also talk to writers about their writing process and suggest ways to break out of old patterns. Anything a student is writing is welcome in the Writing Center: poems, fiction, letters, articles for the Collegian, comprehensive exams, honors proposals, fellowship applications, cover letters, resumes, essays for special programs or graduate school, and anything else. The Writing Consultants offer a fresh point of view.
Writing Consultants are students who are good at writing and talking to fellow students about writing. They provide "another set of eyes." A Writing Consultant will work with you to show you good options for improving whatever you are trying to write.
Ideas, notes, outlines, drafts of papers, personal essays, letters, applications, resumes, proposals, creative writing...anything you are writing or trying to come up with an idea for writing.
Any time from right after you get the assignment (invention) to after you've turned in a draft (revision). At any stage of the writing process: formation of a thesis statement, ideas for organization, developing ideas and argument, strengthening argument.
