The Selective Liberal Arts Consortium (SLAC) offers students the opportunity to participate in regional Recruiting Days for permanent positions and internships. Open to first-years through seniors, Recruiting Days this year were held in New York City and Washington D.C.
Q: What are Recruiting Days?
A: Recruiting Days are organized interview days held in regional cities off campus. Essentially, they work like on-campus recruiting, only off campus. You apply through http://slac.experience.com for each position you are interested in. You will be notified after the deadline whether or not your application has been accepted. If it has, you will then be asked to sign up for a time slot with that employer.
Q: When are they taking place, and what is the deadline to apply?
A: SLAC's Recruitinf Days are complete for the 2013-2014 academic year. Stay tuned for 2014-2015's dates and locations.
Q: Do I need to navigate my way around each city to meet with all of the employers I have interviews with?
A: No. The Recruiting Days are held in one central location. City guides will be made available to you for each city prior to the Recruiting Day. They contain city specific information including the address of the event, important phone numbers, transportation and lodging suggestions.
Q: So, what should I expect?
A: Multiple employers will be at one central location. There are large interview spaces, with tables set up within the same room for different employers. Employers that recruit know that you may be interviewing with other companies (this is perfectly acceptable - just don't bash the employer you just interviewed, especially if they are within earshot!). There may be some distraction as you will hear other voices, so you will want to do your best to stay focused in listening to what the employer is asking of you.
Twenty (20) minutes before each interview, you will take a seat in the on-deck area. There will be a chair with the employer name overhead. When the recruiter is ready, they will come out to greet you and bring you back to their table.
Q: Where can I stay?
A: Each city guide contains hotels that are close in proximity to the Recruiting Day location. However, feel free to stay with family and friends!
Q: I'm sold and I can be in the cities on those days. What do I need to do?
A: View the employers and the positions they are recruiting for through http://slac.experience.com. Your username is your Kenyon email address, followed by "_slac". For example, Jane Doe's would be firstname.lastname@example.org_slac. If you have never logged in before, your password is recruiting. If you have logged in, you may have changed it to something else. Once you are in, apply to as many opportunities that you are interested in, in the cities that you can attend. Once the deadline passes, you'll be notified of your candidacy. Stay tuned for an email from Allison as there is a follow up information session for all those attending a Recruiting Day.
Q: I'm sold, but I cannot be in the city the day of the interview. How can I apply?
A: Most employers have these same positions posted on their Careers pages. If not, please contact Allison Suflita at email@example.com for more information. Be sure to include what employers you are interested in.
