Susan Morse, who grew up in Western Pennsylvania, graduated from Westminster College there in 1994. A sociology major at Westminster, she went on to earn a master’s degree in social administration (M.S.S.A.) from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University in 1998. Susan was employed by the City of Cleveland in the Empowerment Zone before taking on the role of development associate with Recovery Resources, a nonprofit community health-care organization in Cleveland.
From August 2001 through June 2013, Susan served as associate director of sponsored programs at Oberlin College. While there, she worked closely with Sean M. Decatur, who was then Oberlin’s dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and a professor of chemistry and biochemistry. Sean chose Susan as his chief of staff upon accepting the Kenyon presidency in 2013. She continues to live in Oberlin with her daughter, Madeline.
